If you use a laptop or even a desktop computer with a small or medium monitor, you know that screen space is essential. Unfortunately, on screens with modest sizes or low resolutions, this space is somewhat limited. One of the best ways to get more screen space is by having 10 automatically hide the taskbar in Windows 10 using built-in controls from the Settings app. We also have a tool that we have created for the same purpose, which you can use when the taskbar is not hidden even though you have made the necessary changes for this in Windows 10. Let’s get started:
NOTE: The first and last methods we show in this article work to hide the taskbar when using Windows 10 in both desktop and tablet mode. The second method applies only to Windows 10 in tablet mode.
1. How to automatically hide the taskbar in Windows 10 using the settings app.
The first step in making your taskbar auto-hide in Windows 10 is to right-click (or tap and hold) on an empty space on your taskbar, where no icons and pinned apps are showing. In the context menu that appears, select Taskbar Settings.
This action opens the Settings application and instantly takes you to the Taskbar page of the Settings Customization category. You can get here too using the long way: Open Settings and head to Personalization> Taskbar.
On the Taskbar page, look for the setting called “Automatically hide the taskbar in desktop mode” and “Automatically hide the taskbar in tablet mode.” By default, both are off, which means that the taskbar is always displayed on your screen, both in desktop mode and in tablet mode.
If you want to automatically hide the taskbar in desktop mode, when it is not in use, activate the switch “Automatically hide the taskbar in desktop mode”.
If you want to automatically hide the taskbar in tablet mode, when it is not in use, turn on the “Automatically hide the taskbar in tablet mode” switch.
If you want to hide the taskbar at all times, regardless of whether you are using your Windows 10 device in desktop or tablet mode, turn on both switches.
2. How to automatically hide the taskbar quickly in Windows 10 in tablet mode.
If you are using Windows 10 in tablet mode, there is an even faster way to hide the taskbar. Tap and hold (OR right-click) on an empty space on the taskbar, and then tap (click) on “Auto-hide taskbar”.
