The Simultaneous Multi-threading technology used by AMD means that the number of threads of the Ryzen 7 CPU is double the number of processor cores, being 8 and 16 for the entire series respectively.
Intel uses a similar concept for its hyper-threading processors, where multithreading technology is used to improve the quality of performance to a standard that is above the number of cores that the CPU actually has. However, the Core i7 series is still the less powerful of the two, because it only has 8 cores and 8 threads.
If you want the best of the best, the Ryzen 9 has more cores and more threads, being 12 and 16 respectively. However, AMD’s Ryzen 7 CPUs still offer quite a significant improvement compared to older models like the Ryzen 3, which has fewer cores (4) and the same number of threads.

Can architecture break the tie between both CPUs?
The most recent generation of Ryzen 7 uses the Zen3 architecture, which represents a big leap – compared to previous CPUs – in terms of clock speed (as we already saw) and also in terms of the increase in cache size. As mentioned above, multitasking is directly related to the number of threads your CPU has. The higher the number of threads, the easier it is for the processor to perform multiple tasks. Being the most expensive option between the two processor families we have reviewed, we could expect the Core i7s to crush the Ryzen 7 series in every round. But as we saw, this does not happen. That is, both families are fairly close, but AMD’s Ryzen 7 CPU series manages to claim the victory thanks to its higher thread count, increased cache memory, and better multitasking capabilities.
Now, more serious gamers who want a CPU with better records in terms of speed and performance, should lean towards one of the models of the Ryzen 9 series, whose value is more expensive than those of the Ryzen 7 series.
